Costa Rica 7-Day Weather Forecast: June 23 to 29, 2025

What’s Happening This Week

Overview

This week is all about afternoon and evening storms, so plan your outdoor activities for the morning and keep an umbrella handy. A combination of multiple weather systems means we’re in for some dynamic conditions—just the kind of weather that keeps things interesting here in Costa Rica!

Multiple Tropical Waves

This week the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is positioning itself right near Costa Rica, creating the ideal setup for unstable conditions.

We’re also tracking three tropical waves: Tropical wave #8 hits on Tuesday June 24th, followed by tropical wave #9 sweeping through Wednesday night, June 25th into Thursday, June 26th. Then there is tropical wave #10, which could potentially arrive over the weekend.

Note: Tropical waves are quick systems that intensify seasonal rainfall. To learn more read Tropical Waves: What Are They & What to Expect in Costa Rica.

We’re also keeping a close eye on a low pressure system that could break off the Intertropical Convergence Zone. This system has a real chance of strengthening into a tropical depression between Friday, June 27th and early next week. If it does organize it will continue northwest (away from us) but it’s power could push the ITCZ north of Costa Rica. That would normally mean drier conditions (like the Veranillo we mentioned in the last forecast) but with all the humidity along both coasts, combined with tropical wave #10’s arrival, it probably means the rainy pattern will continue either way.

Your Daily Breakdown

Mornings: Start your day with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Pacific coastal areas may see some isolated early showers.

Afternoons: This is when the action picks up. Expect showers and thunderstorms to develop across the Northern Zone, western Caribbean mountains, Central Valley, and Pacific regions. It’s that typical afternoon pattern we see during active periods.

Evenings: Shower and thunderstorm activity continues, particularly in the early evening hours across the Northern Zone, western Caribbean, Central Valley, and Pacific areas. Pacific coastal regions may also see some overnight rain.
