Costa Rica 7-Day Weather Forecast: May 22 to 28, 2025

This Week’s Weather Story

Costa Rica’s Meteorological Institute (IMN) says that we should get ready for wetter conditions across the country as humidity levels gradually climb for the next week. A moist air mass from the Caribbean Sea is moving into central and southern Central America, bringing extra moisture to our region. At the same time, the Intertropical Convergence Zone is becoming more active and organized early next week, which means one thing: more rain is on the way.

The good news is that this increase will be gradual, so you can plan accordingly. The Pacific coast and Central Valley will continue their familiar afternoon pattern of showers and thunderstorms, though some of this rain may stick around into the evening, especially near Pacific beaches and in the Central Valley’s mountain areas.

Over in the Caribbean and Northern Zone, expect changing cloud conditions throughout the day. You might catch some scattered morning showers, and mountain areas could see isolated afternoon downpours.

Planning tip: Since rain intensity will increase each day, plan outdoor activities for the end of this week and start of the weekend, then keep an umbrella handy going into next week!

Daily Weather Breakdown

Mornings

If you’re in the Central Valley or Pacific regions, Thursday and Friday will start with partly to lightly cloudy skies, but expect clouds to build starting Saturday. The Caribbean and Northern Zone will wake up to cloudier conditions with scattered showers possible.

Afternoons

This is when the main action happens. The Pacific, Central Valley, and mountain areas of the Caribbean and Northern Zone should all prepare for showers with thunderstorms. Here’s the key point: rain intensity will ramp up with each passing day, with Sunday and Monday looking particularly wet.

Partly to mostly cloudy skies will blanket the country. Mountain areas of the Central Valley and Pacific coastal zones will likely see scattered showers early in the evening. The Caribbean might experience occasional showers as well.
