As the rainy season continues to establish itself across the country, we should be prepared for afternoon showers and storms, especially along the Pacific coast. The upcoming tropical wave (learn about tropical waves) early next week may cause more significant precipitation, so plan your outdoor activities and longer drives for the morning, whenever possible.
According to Costa Rica’s IMN (Instituto Meteorológico Nacional), humid conditions with typical rainy season showers will continue across the Pacific and Central Valley regions, with a slight decrease in instability expected Friday and Saturday.
From Sunday into next week, atmospheric instability will increase again due to two primary factors: the already present Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) bringing variable rainfall, and the arrival of a tropical wave projected for Monday through Tuesday. This combination will intensify rainfall events in the Pacific and increase precipitation likelihood in parts of the Caribbean and Northern Zone 🌧️.
Residents of northern Guanacaste should prepare for moderate easterly winds in the mountainous areas, which are expected to continue into next week.
